This Annapurna Circuit Fastpack is a challenging high-altitude endurance running adventure designed for experienced runners. It is located in Annapurna Region, North-Central part of Nepal. This route follows a modified section of the classic Annapurna Circuit, optimized for fastpacking. The total running distance is approximately 209 km. The trail transitions through diverse ecological zones—from subtropical forests and river valleys to alpine deserts and high mountain passes. The trail passes through rugged terrain including high alpine valleys, Tilicho Lake, Thorang La Pass (5,416m) and local villages. Along the trail we can see the villages of different communities of Gurung, Magar, Thakali and Manangi.
This fastpack demands strong cardiovascular endurance, efficient uphill hiking, and technical downhill control. It combines long-distance running, power hiking, and altitude management, making it ideal for athletes seeking a high-performance Himalayan challenge.
Along the Trip, we can experience breathtaking Himalayan scenery with panoramic views of peaks like Annapurna I (8,091 m), Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Machapuchare (6,993 m), and Manaslu (8,163 m), alongside dramatic landscapes that shift from lush forests and alpine meadows to arid high-altitude terrain; the highlight is crossing Thorong La Pass (5,416 m), offering sweeping 360° vistas of snow-covered peaks and deep valleys, while traditional villages like Manang and Marpha add rich cultural depth, and sunrise and sunset paint the mountains in golden hues—making the circuit both a physically demanding trek and an unforgettable visual journey.
One of representative will pick you up at airport and accompany you to the Hotel. Depending on arrival time, we will visit some most important places in the Capital.
In the evening, we will have a meeting at the hotel to brief you on the entire trip covering safety, altitude awareness and Preparation.
An early morning, after breakfast we will begin a scenic drive along the Prithvi Highway, following river valleys, terraced farmland, and mid-hill settlements. Beyond Besisahar, the road becomes progressively rugged as it enters the Marsyangdi Valley.
Distance: 178.3 km drive | Approx. Duration: 6-8 hours
Today is the starting day for running and the day begins with a progressive start along the Marsyangdi River with mostly runnable jeep tracks and village trails. The route features gentle climbs, suspension bridges, and terraced farmland. Ideal for maintaining an easy, controlled pace while gradually adapting to heat and early elevation gain.
Distance: 22.3km | Ascent: +650m | Descent: -280m
Today, we will pass through rolling terrain, waterfalls, and narrow sections carved into the hillside. Expect repeated short climbs and descents requiring pacing discipline. The trail transitions into a wider valley approaching Tal, allowing smoother running in the final section.
Distance: 13.5km | Ascent: +820m | Descent: -260m
Today will be a longer endurance stage through forests and traditional villages. The gradual ascent supports sustained running, with sections of jeep track mixed with single track. Focus on consistent effort as altitude increases and the air becomes little thinner.
Distance: 21.5km | Ascent: +1,050m | Descent: -180m
Today is a scenic but demanding climb toward higher altitude terrain. The trail alternates between runnable flats and steady uphill gradients, with expansive views of surrounding peaks. Effort should remain controlled, emphasizing acclimatization and efficient uphill running.
Distance: 15.8km | Ascent: +780m | Descent: -120m
Today, the route will open to alpine slopes and we can the panoramic views of the Annapurna range. The terrain is more arid and exposed, with gentle undulations and gradual elevation gain. Passing through Ngawal and Braga, the trail offers a balance of runnable sections and controlled effort zones. Arrival in Manang provides a key acclimatization point, both physically and mentally, before entering more demanding high-altitude terrain.
Distance: 20.4km | Ascent: +500m | Descent: -250m
Leaving Manang, we will enter into a more remote and rugged landscape. The route passes Khangsar village before continuing along narrow, exposed traverses that cross landslide-prone sections. The terrain becomes increasingly technical so we need careful foot placement and efficient movement. With altitude exceeding 4,000 m, pacing becomes critical, and sustained running is limited.
Distance: 14.3km | Ascent: +700m | Descent: -100m
Today, we will start at early morning to see the stunning and memorable sunrise view from Tilicho Lake. From Tilicho Lake, we can also see beautiful views of Mountains including Tilicho Peak (7,134m), Nilgiri (7,061m), Khamsar Kang (7,485m) and Gangapurna (7,455m). After exploring around Tilicho Lake, we will get back to Tilicho BC, take breakfast and head towards Khangsar.
From Tilicho BC to Lake, the climb is steep and conducted primarily at a hiking pace due to altitude and terrain. After a stop at Tilicho base Camp, the trail will be descent & provides opportunities for controlled running, though caution is required on loose and uneven surfaces.
Distance: 24.8km | Ascent: +800m | Descent: -1,200m
Today, we will rejoin the main Annapurna Circuit trail, and the route ascends gradually through Yak Kharka and Ledar. The landscape is characterized by alpine pasture and increasingly barren terrain. As elevation rises, oxygen levels decrease significantly, requiring a disciplined and steady pace. The final ascent to High Camp is steep and demanding, setting up for the next day’s pass crossing.
Distance: 20.6km | Ascent: +1,200m | Descent: -100m
Today is the most challenging, demanding and defining day of the trip, as we cross the High Pass & also the highest point of the Trip. The ascent to Thorong La Pass begins before dawn in cold and thin-air conditions, requiring slow, consistent effort. During the pass, we can see the stunning 360degree views of Himalayas including Chulu west, Yakawa Kang, Thorang Peak, Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri massif & several prominent peaks.
After pass, the route descends dramatically into the Mustang region & long descent toward Kagbeni transitions from high alpine terrain to dry, open landscapes, offering extended but technically demanding downhill running.
Kagbeni is a charming ancient village, perched at the gateway to Upper Mustang along the Kali Gandaki River. Known for its traditional Tibetan-style architecture, narrow cobblestone streets, and serene monastery, it offers a peaceful stop with a glimpse into Mustang’s unique culture and history.
Distance: 23.9km | Ascent: +550m | Descent: -2,600m
From Kagbeni, the trail follows the wide Kali Gandaki valley, characterized by dry, windy conditions and open terrain. The route is relatively flat, that allows sustained running and recovery pacing.
Marpha, known for its traditional architecture and apple orchards, provides a culturally rich and relaxed environment after the high-altitude exertion.
Distance: 20.6km | Ascent: +60m | Descent: -200m
This day, landscape gradually transitions from arid Mustang into greener terrain. The trail includes a mix of forest paths, river crossings, and gentle climbs. With decreasing altitude, oxygen availability improves, allowing us to regain efficiency and maintain a more comfortable endurance pace.
Distance: 18.9km | Ascent: +150m | Descent: -290m
Today, we will descend through subtropical forest, waterfalls, and traditional villages. The trail includes stone steps and technical sections, requiring careful control and pacing. Warmer temperatures and increased humidity mark a clear environmental shift to us. When we reach Tatopani, we will take little rest and go to natural hot spring, which provides us valuable recovery after sustained physical effort.
Distance: 23.2km | Ascent: +100m | Descent: -1,440m
Early morning, after breakfast, we will take a jeep to Pokhara. The drive from Tatopani to Pokhara covers approximately 110 km along winding mountain roads, taking around 4–5 hours. This day, we will drive through lush valleys, terraced farmland, and riverside villages, offering scenic views of forests, waterfalls, and glimpses of the Annapurna range along the way.
